Surgical Treatment Robots For Major Diseases

2025.07.22

The new surgical robot laboratory jointly established by the China Merchants Research Institute of Advanced Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong has successfully developed multiple robots for surgical treatment of major diseases. For example, the new magnetic microguidewire robot can turn directly under the control of an external magnetic field, easily and efficiently reaching deep cerebrovascular networks, thus solving the problem that conventional microguidewires struggle to access tortuous and complex cerebrovascular networks. There are also two new types of magnetic embolization coils – one with shape-memory deformation and the other with expandable deformation – both of which can achieve position locking via an external magnetic field. This enables more reliable embolization of complex cerebral aneurysms and avoids the risks of tube kickback and dislodgement that occur when conventional metal coils are released in blood vessels.
