To accelerate the achievement of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength and to provide high-quality support for Hong Kong's development as an International Innovation and Technology Hub, China Merchants Group established the China Merchants Research Institute of Advanced Technology in Hong Kong in April 2023.

Positioned as the Group's centrally-coordinated, forward-looking, and open R&D body, the Institute fulfills four primary functions: tracking frontier technologies, conducting research and development of key technologies, facilitating the commercialization of innovative outcomes, and fostering collaboration with technology talent.

The Institute's work centers on three key domains: Digital and Intelligent Technologies, Life Sciences Technology, and Green Technology. Its mission is to solve critical frontier technology challenges for industry and translate those innovations into commercial applications, with the ultimate goal of becoming a leading corporate R&D institution with significant regional influence.
